My Grandparents were born in Ukraine and much and my impressesions of Communism and Socialism were shaped by their accounts of growing up durring the famine. Like you, members of my extended family were taken either by the Fascists when they invaded or by the Soviets when they were liberated. Depending on who you ask the political enforcers were about to grab Grandfather when he managed to book passage to Canada for himself, his brother and their respective families.
