Alright, dear conspiracy theorists and civil rights advocates. Bring out the best you got! :) Btw i'm sure we could expand it a bit more to include things like intelligence, surveillance, terrorism, IDs, even illegal immigration if you like. Anyway, here are some points that could be brought up:

- Historical examples of tyrannical states - ancient and modern.
- The concept of enlightened absolutism.
- Military dictatorships.
- The attributes and institutions of the police state.
- Classification of the police state: all between libertarianism & totalitarianism.
- Emergency situations as an excuse: national emergency, terrorism, war.
- Martial law, the suspension of civil law.
- National security vs civil rights: the fragile balance.
- Social control: norms, sanctions, institutions.
- Religious services in the theocratic states.
- The electronic police state (media & internet control).
- The police state in fiction: books, films, authors; dystopia.
- The role of the secret services, internal and external.
- Police abuse & other abuse of power.
- The system of prisons.
- Special interrogation techniques, indefinite detention, torture.
- Extrajudicial punishment.
- Habeas corpus & the Patriot Act.
- IDs, illegal immigration, border control.
- Mass surveillance.
- Data privacy & wiretapping.
- The technologies of the future: satellites, chips, etc.
- The right to convene, protest, and bear arms.
- Organizations countering the police state: Amnesty, NGOs, grassroots.
