For centuries, Britain and Spain have quarreled for a rock at the southern tip of the Iberian peninsula. After the Brexit, this row has sparked up with new force. We've even heard mentions of the word "war". So how real is this prospect?

War? Not really. It's all propaganda for domestic consummation. On both sides.

Belligerence and sabre-rattling rather than war on our side, I hope. We are a bit bonkers, and given we're now going to lose the Union with Scotland within two decades, we are liable to go even more so.

Who knows? Maybe we'll do something really mad and stupid. Decades of disinvestment in education has made us vulnerable to manifest stupidities, never mind accurately targeted propaganda designed to divorce us from Europe. Especially as we appear to be the only EU member with serious deep water capabilities.

And Spain really hasn't got a leg to stand on, morally speaking, given Ceuta and Melilla.
