It still hasn't gone out of hand yet because the Turks have other stuff on their hands to deal with right now. Other external and internal enemies to slaughter. When they're done with the Kurds and things have settled somewhat in Syria, be sure to look for assaults on any Others (be they people of other religions or of no religion).
Things are definitely not going in a good direction for Turkey.
It's a shame that Turkey still isn't considered European and civilized enough, what with the awesome level of religious tolerance that permeates its society. Yup, indeed.
I was hoping that the Turkish Islamists would be more in the vein of the Christian Democrats, but they keep disappointing me by proving to be slightly less thuggish equivalents of the Muslim Brotherhood. Then again as Donald Trump shows, nothing about democracy or 'moderate' options means people would actually choose them, the masses have through the 6,000 years of human history as civilization repeatedly taken self destructive choices before. Also sad that Turkey almost caricatures at this point the idea that the region can choose between secular dictators or theocrats as the champions of the masses as they actually are.
The Times are run by that asshole Sun Myung Moon, who is anything but reputable. Reuters is fine. As I said, it's deplorable that Turkish Islamists seem hell-bent on validating the stereotype of the secular dictator versus the backward masses.
Would you be so kind to present me with a list of media which you consider reputable enough, so I could know the next time what I should do in order to specifically match your criteria?
I like it how some are still scrambling to present this as some sort of exception, rather than the new norm in Turkey. No, actually I lied - I don't like it. But they still are.
I'm sure they'll keep doing so, even after Erdogan outlaws all opposition parties, puts all dissenting journalists, activists and political opponents behind bars, cracks down on anyone who dares to raise their head, and ultimately turns Turkey into a neo-Ottoman version of Iran.
I expect the generals will overthrow him for another Ataturk or Inonu type before that happens. I don't think he'd have the balls to try it but if he did, he's no Kim Jong Un, they're not going to let him throw them to the wolves, literally.
News flash. There are no generals left. Most of them are in jail now. The Turkish military is not what it used to be pre-Erdogan. It's a toothless puppy now. If it weren't, he'd already be history a long time ago.
