Could the Planets in Star Wars Actually Support Life?

Turns out, most of them no - at least not in the way shown in the movies.

Star Wars was pretty much straight up fantasy in denial, which is understandable considering how fantasy sold until the LOTR. Everyone, look at the spaceships and laser blasters and droids. Forget that the main heroes use swords and magic and wear capes... in space... while they're fighting with their swords ( ... )

Scientifically accurate space combat makes for great reading (the Honor Harrington books are a good example of this) but have yet to be made into compelling cinema. I'd love to see it though.

It's still great fun to see a break-neck speed dogfight in the style of atmospheric craft, which is probably why it's so easy to just suspend our disbelief while watching Star Wars films (like the great battle scene in "Return of the Jedi" or the Death Star run in the original.)

Yep, just enjoy the sound effects that go along with them. After all, a 1,000G turn should make a cool noise and a silent near-miss from a blaster would just be creepy.

I do enjoy the WWII fighter plane style space combat scenes in Star Wars but the space combat scene in Wrath of Khan - enough said.
