I recently talked with a friend of mine who's a Lebanon-born Christian. We were watching an Egyptian movie from the 60s, the golden age of Arab cinema. You may ask, what does this have to do with the terror attacks in Paris, Sinai, Beirut, Ankara, Iraq and Yemen? Well, do bear with me.

And good point about EU being blackmailed by Turkey about the refugees. There was a time I used to think Europe was being too harsh on Turkey, and its refusal to even begin considering a Turkish EU entry was just a result of pettiness. But now I'm having second thoughts - especially now that I'm seeing what Erdogan's been doing to his country.

Which decade are these guys operating from, aesthetically? The 1960s!?

Turkish movies from the 60's were indeed very liberal-minded compared to today's. I was watching TV last weekend in Istanbul and it's hilarious how they bother to censor even smoking on television (by animating a sort of tiny spaceship over the burning end!). But their sixties' movies had no problem representing nudity, smoking, drinking, etc. Their shots of female T&A and male pecs are epic.
