Caution! Russians at the seaside!

Sep 15, 2015 15:56

If you thought the Middle Eastern refugee hordes are the modern re-embodiment of the Great Migration period of the early Medieval epoch (as the more xenophobic ones among us tend to present it - and I assure you, those abound around these latitudes), then I suggest you think again. Because there's another type of barbarian, a more subtle, and ( Read more... )

I believe you are mistaken here.
Russian economy is in tatters. (c)
Russians just don`t have enough money to buy euros or dollars to go abroad. Most of them in 2015 took vacation in occupied ruined Crimea or among the ruins of unfinished Olympic buildings in Sochi. The people you`re talking about must be Ukrainian or Baltic countries citisens. They speak Russian too, but the economies of their countries are in much better shapes then Russian economy and thus their feelings of belonging to World Powers are more justified that Russians`. No wonder you are always being greeted well in Russia - Russians love Bulgarian bratooshkies. Russians simply cannot behave that way in Bulgaria. They simply cannot go to Bulgaria as well.
I hope, this misunderstanding will be resolved somehow

I've been processing these people's passports on a daily basis, and I can assure you at least 90% of them are Russians.

Well, looks like you're wrong. Apparently, the Russian tourists are flocking back to their traditional destinations.

It's official. The Russians have taken the #1 spot away from Germans as the worst tourists. Need I say more?

Aside from the socks with sandals and shorts, Germans are usually pretty good. They do seem to get disproportionately eaten by crocs here though, so read into that what you will :P

Having a former global power now turned into regional power with global pretentions sucks big time, bro. I feel for ya.

Way better to be the regional a-hole yourself, the way we are here at the ass of the world (I'm talking of South Africa).

We've been promoting this place as the heaven of booze and depravity - what did you expect? It's exactly what we're getting. At least the Russians mostly come for family holidays, as obnoxious as they might be in their attitude. Granted, in a way it's more offensive than all those Dutch, British and Scandinavian youngsters vomiting their guts out after a night's bar crawl - those are at least simple party animals who've suddenly found themselves in a place without rules, so they want to grab as much of it as they can within the short time they're here. The Russians? They're here to stay. For long. And sure, they'll have a different sort of demands. It's up to us if we're going to bend over backwards to accommodate them no matter what, or we'll take a stance and hold it no matter the consequences for the business - or preferably, some balanced position in the middle between these two extremes. I think you've guessed by now which option I favor.

most products are probably "Super-Duper-Eco-Biofood", and had been guarded by a special rare breed of armed pink pelican and a polar bear with sunglasses and an impeccable Oxford British accent

LOL! Loved that bit :)
