Just a few years ago it looked like Italy, with its huge debt, the economic stagnation and the insanely bloated public sector, was bound to succumb to recession, and drag the rest of Europe along with it. Renzi recently tweeted that Italy expects the promised investments from Europe, not lectures. He's showing good confidence, and for a reason. Italy has a lot more to offer than Greece, economy-wise, so their story will be quite different.

Sure, Matteo Renzi is someone who shouldn't be underestimated. He may not be the master of small details, and may be mostly focused on the larger picture, and the devil is often in the details, but all in all, he has managed to shake up the status quo in his country, and hopefully he'll keep the course for a long enough time to change the way Italy conducts its business. Because the alternative is not very nice.
