The scramble to liberate the Arctic of its treasures heats up

Denmark has been the latest country to press claims over chunks of the Arctic. Last December, the Danish foreign minister Martin Lindegaard issued the respective letter to the UN, stating Denmark's plans to assert their position at the international Arctic stage.

I don't know about actual hot war, but the ongoing Cold War v.2.0 surely is going to involve the scramble for the Arctic as well. There'll be "incidents" with surveillance planes flying over "foreign territory", and fighter jets being deployed to intercept them (as if those planes would steal someone's land or something); there'll be harsh words exchanged between the sides involved, and harsh retorts, and more yelling and barking and ranting in diplomatic notes, and drumming up "patriotic" feelings around the propaganda outlets media, etc etc. We've all watched this movie, haven't we.

As long as countries stick with the 200 mile rule, I don't see what the big deal is. If some countries don't, (Russia, I'm looking at you!) then we'll know who the bad guys are and then the international community will have to decide how to best capitulate while being both craven and self righteous.
