Chartsmanship goes interplanetary

Behold! An asshole who happens to be appointed at a position directly affecting science-related policy, attempts to deal with an actual scientist, and finds out his little chartsmanship is cute, but severely lacking in basic knowledge of NASA.

Seems like the Chairman of the Senate Space and Science and 2013 Person of the Year Ted Cruz doesn't ( Read more... )

And the American Geophysical Union, which is made up of more than 60,000 Earth and space scientists, has responded to Cruz by sending an open letter.

Not surprised this yokel doesn't get that monitoring conditions on Earth to ensure successful entrance into space is rather decidedly important to the whole business. Then again, this is a guy whose family is Cuban and Canadian who screeches about illegal immigrants and who proclaims a US citizen isn't patriotic enough when he's yet to ditch his own Canadian citizenship. The only thing he's good for here is LULZ.

If we've learned anything from the recent measles outbreak and ensuing vaccination controversy, it's that for a large number of people no amount of rigorous scientific research is enough to prove the safety of important scientific advances. This growing anti-science fringe is fighting hard to convince the public to ignore piles of peer-reviewed studies and statistics in favour of personal stories and pseudoscience, in most cases some political agenda lurking behind it all ( ... )
