A wake-up call for the Brussels sleepwalkers

A bunch of sleepwalkers. That's what the 95 y.o. former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt dubbed all the establishment Eurocrats in an interview for Der Bild a few days before the European parliamentary election. He accused them of "knowing too little" of international politics, and being responsible for the dangerous turn of the crisis in Ukraine. ( Read more... )

The real wake-up call here is not that eurosceptic parties have won in two of the major EU countries, but the low turnout in the new EU members, which are generally pro-EU. That must ring the alarm for the bureaucrats in Brussels that something's wrong here.
