A wake-up call for the Brussels sleepwalkers

A bunch of sleepwalkers. That's what the 95 y.o. former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt dubbed all the establishment Eurocrats in an interview for Der Bild a few days before the European parliamentary election. He accused them of "knowing too little" of international politics, and being responsible for the dangerous turn of the crisis in Ukraine.

Even the general centrist in me rejoices at the sight of those powdered poodles in Brussels shaking in their boots.

The real wake-up call here is not that eurosceptic parties have won in two of the major EU countries, but the low turnout in the new EU members, which are generally pro-EU. That must ring the alarm for the bureaucrats in Brussels that something's wrong here.
