What's the matter with Congress?

So, I am here to complain. (what else is new, right?)
But really, it's my congressman's fault.

Here's the backstory: back when round two of CISPA was happening, that is, NOT when the huge google/wikipedia backlack occured, but a short while after, when congress tried to pass the same bills, just with less fanfare ( Read more... )

There is a problem in that:

He does not clearly state that *this particular fact* about CISPA is why he supported it. If it is as you say and him describing the bill is him describing why he supports the bill, his form letter does a terrible job (in fact, it does not do it, AT ALL!) of explaining that clearly.

Second of all: what level of information does he think I had about the bill? To tell me the purpose of the bill is hardly news to somebody active and interested enough to write their congressman.

And claiming that you support something because of a sunset provision is really fucking dumb and I cannot imagine Jeffries would do that. "Hey, I know I'm shitting on your dinner table, but I'm only gonna do it for another month. You like that idea, right ( ... )

When I used to do it, they would often mail back committee reports, all types of research on the specific topic etc. Some of the packages were a foot thick .

They don't do that much now .

Congress is dysfunctional because the system works in its own fashion and cannot satisfy a genuine agenda one way or the other unless that agenda is favoring the interests of multi-national corporations that roll out the dough and the bribes. If you're a crook it's a lovely system. If you want genuine accomplishments, don't hold your breath.

Is this congressman a democrat? I'm asking because I have a nice big neon sign to install somewhere where a liberalish person has faulted a democrat for reference.

I've only ever gotten back automated responses. My old high school history teacher writes the representatives and the president a letter once a week, every week. He gets individual responses, and even birthday cards from the White House lol.

Yeah, I get that same kind of crap from Sen. Feinstein and the other CA one. I don't write to my rep that often since he usually already votes the way I would want him to.
