I'm not sure what the Ukrainians were expecting from Yushchenko. To arrive on his orange horse and change the country into a paradise within four years or what? These things don't happen overnight, especially when you have such formidable forced opposing you, and a dysfunctional system as the Ukrainian one.

The military is one of the most corrupt institutions in Ukraine, and deteriorating at the fastest rate among all other institutions.

If a country the size of France reverts into a Luchachenko-or-worse style regime, that will be a very, very bad thing. I do wonder, however, if East Ukraine would accept rule by a dictatorship based in West Ukraine, and what Russia would try to do about Sevastopol in this case.
