If the US consists of 50 states with their own specifics and a relative sovereignty of legislation, then I don't see much of a reason why successful models cannot (or shouldn't) be ganked from smaller countries. I mean, most US states are comparable in size and population to most countries from the above list.

Oregon is the only state not to do SALES tax.

They are...but the states vary more along regional lines or age than anything else. Mostly, the differences are in the specifics of any particular law and how it is carried out, which also results in lawyers having reciprocity or provisional agreements in certain states or none at all.

Counties, cities, and other intrastate divisions create and enforce day-to-day laws and so have more variation. For example, Boulder City, next to Las Vegas, is one of two cities that prohibit gambling in Nevada.

The problem is that once a state gets good, a bunch of transplants flood that state and ruin the quality of life for everyone. For example, I live in Colorado, and our state continues to go downhill as all these jerks from California and the east coast move here and transplant their dysfunctional cultures into my state. It's unfortunate that we can't just restrict immigration between the states.

Um..Colorado was great in the the late 80's and early 90's, as a state it showed great scores in all kinds of areas, it was top ten I believe, when it came to educational results for instance. Now it is in the bottom scores among states. This is connected to TABOR and many other libertarian laws and the mess they created. There is a direct correlation in both time and results and it has been fairly well covered. So, I don't think either immigrants or out of state Americans did anything to Colorado that the Coloradans didn't do themselves.
