Nastase was an integral part of the opportunistic, postcommunist thieving regime which "transitioned" the socialist economy to the free market, enriching their class while doing so. The Social Democrats (FSN / PDSR / PSD / ...) in Romania are just an old wolf in sheep's clothes, I hope that they don't win coming elections.

It seems that this is another illustration of the pitfalls of transitioning from a relatively brutal totalitarian regime to a free-market democracy. Totalitarianism is a system that runs on corruption, capitalism is easily prone to it if unchecked, put together capitalism and the end of totalitarianism and a transitional system and you get clusterfucks like this.
