Police said 3,500 for the night time crowd which seemed about 1/4 the size of the daytime crowd.

The only citations say "thousands".

So....14,000 for daytime crowd?

I can't find a citation. Its just "thousands" in sfgate and oakland tribune. I didn't get there until around 6:30 though, sorry.

Does it have to be usa? I know there were huge rallies in spain and greece.

Yes, it has to be USA. While the Arab Spring and the Spanish Indignados are inspiration for OWS, they are distinct and different.

OWS is an American movement and the bet was about American turnout.

I say both of you pay $20 and everyone will be happy :D

(un)related question. On May 1st I saw part of the protest under the NYT building on 8th Ave. Drumgs, sings, banners, marching - the whole nine yards. But they were waving just two flags - a black flag (assuming for anarchy and not pirates) and the "Betsy Ross" flag. Any idea how the two combine or what symbolism the betsy ross flag has for OWS?

Betsy Ross? As in, she who made the first American flag?

Well, there's something to be said for returning to the state in America where corporations were NOT people.
And I promise you there were WAY more than two flags. You mighta just seen two, but there were lots and lots, not just two.

Yeah the one with 13 stars in a circle. Well at 8:30am there were about 40 people - they barely took up half a block and not too dense since people were passing through the crowd. They also had a red banner that had title "Legal-something" and ended in "Association". I was running late to work due so didn't have time to stop or cross the street to take a closer look. Just the two flags caught my attention.

Also, you were only at one location. The morning events were spread out across the city in many locations. Later in the evening they all converged together.

My friend who is currently out there with them claims 30k, but I think he's biased and is going with the high end reporting. It might easily be over 8k. You just have to figure out where the date cutoff lies. ;)

Let it ride on....

1) either candidate mentioning OWS in the first debate.

2) Romney picking a VP with a net worth over/under 15 million.

3) the Astros

4) wing eating contest

5) odd and even horses in the Derby
