Downshifting

Downshifting literally means switching to a lower gear in life. It is a curious social movement that promotes a new, or should I call it, old lifestyle, and in a way is a utopian escape from the realities of modern urbanised life. I'm 57. At least among my peer group, I find that a lot of people at this point in their career automatically downshift. They've pretty much accomplished everything they reasonably can, and so start preparing for the next phase of their life.

Taking it slowly is nice (uh huh) but if that becomes the norm, things could get reeeeally boring. And I suspect I'd die if I was bored for long enough time.
