A libertarian seasteading project

Most of you have probably heard about this already. Peter Thiel, the founder of PayPal and one of the first investors in Facebook, has invested one and a quarter million dollars in the Seasteading Institute company, which funds a project by one Patri Friedman, a former engineer at Google. As in all other "ideal" societies, this is bound to fail because it consists of people who are far from ideal.

Yep, its amazing the things you can do when using a pile of money you got from our current mixed system. I bet they could make a communist island too, would that prove something?

Not if the pirates come at them with automatic weapons and their idea of armed is pistols. And most crucially not if the pirates are able to blockade them and keep shooting at them where they're not expecting or considering any such possibility. These utopian experiments only work so long as everybody leaves them alone. A bunch of rich guys isolated in the ocean is going to attract pirates like a chicken bone will attract ants at a picnic.
