The EU's problems are pretty simple-it wanted economic union without political union, meaning it entrusts economic policies to multiple separate political systems each with its own problems and faultlines and without guarantees any of these separate systems would ever actually co-operate for any kind of common end or purpose. Changing this would be improbable, but the consequences, as with US deregulation and the resultant fraud and blatant untruths in supposed profit have to be dealt with. It can't be helped or changed, the only difficulty now is in trying to prevent problem from equalling disaster.
