I've been wanting a post like this for a while...

...and no one has written it, so I'm taking the initiative.

In a recent post by the_rukh there was a heated ensuing discussion about whether it's appropriate to give advice to women to help them prevent being raped. One of the things that came up repeatedly in the discussion was that whether or not the advice was appropriate (and that is NOT the focus of ( Read more... )

How many more posts about rape and abortion before everyone pukes collectively? Is there any sub-sub-sub-issue of the issue that we haven't discussed yet? Seems yes.

(Don't worry, not your fault. Must be the pregnancy. Can't be otherwise).

I summon everybody who'd like to join my Alliance Against Rape/Abortion Posts, and post as many maximum-interesting non-abortion-non-rape posts as they can. There's candy!

Not really. Does anything in my statement sound imperative or like a suggestion about anyone doing anything imperative? I'm expressing an impression. You disagree? Fair enough. But don't involve mods, etc.

I'm just trying to get why you feel compelled to complain about a post here that is on topic and follows the rules. Why does the fact that certain subjects are discussed here at length bother you?

It has resulted in more than one post recently because, as I observed, it's a subject that arouses a great deal of discussion -- which is likely to prompt other posts on the issue.

Complaining about the fact that certain posts are posted comes across less as an attempt at discussion than an attempt to foment a turf-battle -- and invoking terms like "old-timers" adds to that impression.

I don't like the concept of old timers, though.

Every separate person has their separate and autonomous opinions and point of view. I don't necessarily share 100% of the views of someone who happened to agree with me on something.

Yes, everybody has their point of view. That's the reason this forum exists.

On the contrary, rape is very political issue. It's directly related to the issue of women's rights.
