Writing Tip Of The Week

UPDATES:

Yes, I missed my Christmas post. I’m slack. However tonight is New Year’s Eve! I have a few resolutions for next year, including getting a new car, finishing the second draft of Lifesphere Inc 2 and organising a finally draft of The Hungry People.

The first time I heard back from a publisher (TOR) was a few minutes before midnight on New ( Read more... )

I’d rather feel insecure and have better writing! But then, I guess I have the insecurity part down. Either way, I hope I NEVER reach a stage where I feel completely confident-particularly if it hurts my drive to continue to improve.

I’m surprised you don’t have New Year’s Resolutions. For me, resolutions has always been interchangeable with ‘goals’. I bet you have goals for 2011. You can tell me those instead!

Resolutions are supposed to take the whole year. Grin.

I agree 100% with the learning thing. I can't imagine what I'd so with myself if I went through a whole day without learning something! It would be... unthinkable.

Mostly I want to know about people's writing goals here and obviously personal stuff should stay personal. For me resolutions and goals have always been positive things--looking at ways to make life better and be happier.

My resolution is to "live" to the fullest spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally. What more could a person ask for?

Nothing, I’d say.

Though how do you gauge that? Psychology textbooks seem to think that some people are going to feel like they have those things and some people aren’t, regardless of what either person does differently or the same.

Write more, read more, travel more. Find an agent and try to get published. (Life outside writing? What can that be?)

Have a wonderful 2011!

Life outside writing-pffft, now you’re just making things up!

When are you anticipating have a manuscript polished and ready to query?

Around the middle of the year? Editing/revising/rewriting might start in mid-January.

Are you waiting until mid Jan because you're taking a break to let it mellow or because you're still finishing the draft?

I do have a writing based resolution this year! Well actually, I have a couple. The first is to participate in and hopefully complete NaNoWriMo 2011.

The second is a little more in-depth. Lately I've been toying with an idea for a series of short stories that I'd like to start working on this year. I haven't been inspired by anything but my cats lately so I figured I should roll with it. I have a working title--Diary of a Crazy Cat Lady. The short stories will be about all of the cats that have been and are in my life. It's the first thing I've been really excited about since October so I'm hesitantly optimistic about it right now. I just hope I don't fall into my usual rut.

Your display pic is making me hungry.

I think I should probably join you in the nano resolution. I haven’t nanoed properly in years and I’ve never finished successfully. I think this will be the year!

The crazy cat last short story idea sounds great! I look forward to hearing more about it as it takes shape!

Ohh! Final drafts and agent querying is exciting!

I already offered to help you with your query letter, didn’t I? If not, I’ll offer now. I’m pretty damn good at query letters. I’m even presenting a workshop on it in a few months.

As for the divorce, well, it will be a relief for you when it’s all over, and that’s the important thing.

Well, if you felt uncomfortable with the idea of getting divorced right now that would be a perfectly valid excuse in my books!

I would hope it would be less stressful to get it over and done with though. Even though actually doing it will probably be difficult, emotionally. *hugs*
