I had convinced myself to not get it, but now that I know how much SQ stuff is in there...I think it's time for a re-visit. Might be good reading for the bus to New Jersey, in any case. :)

I had convinced myself to not get it,

I've noticed a good number of fandomers feel this way, which actually surprises me - I was really excited that there would be a book written about my experience. Can I ask why you didn't want it?

Mostly because I have zero time lately for extra-curricular reading and it's hard to justify buying a book like this with college costs, I guess. I also thought it might focus on facets of fandom I wasn't all that familiar with and am not particularly in the mood to delve into lately. But in the end all my justifications come up short, apparently. I guess I've been pretty life/college/relationship/work-focused these days that fandom in general has taken the back-most of backseats.

Ah, okay. Yeah, I think that's a bit different from what I'm talking about then, since if you're no longer that much of a fandom person to begin with, I think that's different from someone who IS still into fandom, but just doesn't want the book. I tried starting a discussion about it on LJ, but everyone took it as a "yay Melissa" entry more than anything to discuss. :/

Nice review -- thanks. I was kind of iffy about reading it, but I think this nudged me over the line. I do feel weirdly connected, having done the whole 87-search into the deep dark early days of the fandom...

I've seen that the book is on the NYT best-seller list, which makes me really happy for Melissa. :)

I just finished reading that book last week and I loved it so so so much. I was, like, grinning all the way through. it was so exciting to recognize all those names and events.
