Summary: Asbel centric; One year after he joined the Knight Academy, what was he thinking about home?
Note: Major spoiler for Asbel's childhood
A small body in dirty training suit had straggered back to his room.
It was already late at night, he was doing sword practice alone in the Knight training ground
that he hadn't noticed the time had passed for four hours. Asbel collapsed on the bed,
too tired to change his clothes. Normally he would hear his mother called one of the maids
to come to take care of him, and Hubert would probably try to wake him up. His grip tightened
as he recalled those memories.
It was no more.
That place had entirely changed since the day she died.
That place couldn't be called a home without his little brother around.
Sometimes he worried about Hubert, he had never left his side before when they were in Lhant.
What if he got picked on by the bad kids over there? What if he was crying and no one soothed him?
Those thoughts disturbed him enough that he wanted to run off to Strata just to see his little brother.
But he couldn't, no, he shouldn't.
Wasn't him the fault of that tragic accident?
Didn't him come here to become a Knight to atone that sin?
His hand combed through messy crimson hair a few times. That day he had sworn to his father that
he wouldn't take his position and had chosen to join the Knight Training Academy in the capitol of Windol
to achieve the strength to protect everyone he loved. It was his choice, or perhaps it was only choice
a child could think of.
He refused to believe it was an excuse.
He refused to believe that he was running away from those memories.
Asbel closed his eyes, he still had tomorrow to deal with. Once he became a knight, he would go back
to visit everyone at Lhant. Hugging his mother would be the first thing he was going to do, then pinched Hubert's cheeks,
getting scolded by Cheria, and perhaps had a brief talk with father to show how he was accomplished.
If only he became strong, everything was going to be the same. If the same fate was going to happen again,
now he knew what to do, to protect those he cared at any cost.
Such a childish dream, strangely, Asbel knew he would eventually succeed.
