I thought this was the least successful of the Chip Harrison stories, mainly because Haig seems to solve it out of the blue. It was a disappointing read for me.

Since I haven't read the Harrison novels yet, I can't compare to those, so I might mirror you disappoint when I finally do. But what made the story so enjoyable for me was the sense that Block knew exactly what he was doing by having Haig solve the mystery so magically: sending up so many other classic detectives who do the same thing on a regular basis.
