I may pick this up - is there a sequence to his work or does each book stand alone?

The nice thing about the Bernie books (all of which have "Burglar" in the title) is that you can read them in any order. There are off-hand references to previous stories but nothing you need to know to enjoy the book at hand. I've read them out of order.
