I read the book too. And it was made into a movie by Michael Mann. With what we later know to be an excellent cast - Scott Glenn, Jurgen Prochnow, Gabriel Byrne, Ian McKellen.

And I have read the follow-up books in that series save the most recent.

So I'm guessing you enjoyed the rest of the series enough to keep reading? Or did you read them out of the sense of "I started the series, I need to finish it?"

I only stick with a series if it manages to hook me in some way. I read the Keep and then looked for other novels he'd written. So I read the first Repairman Jack book, skipped a series about another character, and then was surprised that he was picking up on the plotline from The Keep so read those. Worth tracking down.

I find that used bookstores in a downtown or near any college will have stuff like that. I'm going to recommend a series to you now - The Black Company, by Glen Cook. Favorite series ever. He followed those original 3 books with something like 6 more and his writing and the story just got better as it went. And it started pretty damn good. Changed how I view fantasy fiction and I dropped a lot of authors after that.
