Oh, I love this:

“Yes, Frodo, whining takes a lot out of you,” Merry chimed in. “Poor Pippin must be exhausted. All he’s done this afternoon is complain.”

This sounds so much like something my elder lad would say to his younger brother it made me laugh out loud! :-) This is a lovely portrait of a happy hobbit hole, despite the grumbling over lessons. The love clearly shines through, as does the foreshadowing of things to come. And your Bilbo is perfection. No wonder they all love him. Thanks for this sweet little tale. I enjoyed it immensely!

Too many things to love about this. Pippin's ever evolving excuses about why it's a bad time to practice his writing, Merry's teasing, Frodo's exasperation, Pippin's plans for grand adventure, Bilbo's interruption of study time, and especially, this: An adventure with those three? Frodo smiled at the thought. Perhaps if the situation presented itself he would take a cue from Bilbo and stay behind as well. Well done :)

I don't like to write neatly either ;) Although at least I can use the computer! I love the way that Pippin wants to have adventures, they don't get to plan their adventures quite the way the want but the turn out in the end! I like that just with a look Pippin has Merry back on his side and as you put it returned as "Sworn Protector of Little Hobbits Named Pippin." Wonderful! Thank you!

LOL...wonderful! I loved the part of Pippin and Merry arguing, of course, but Pippin standing upon his chair waving his quill around was great! That Tookish curiosity getting the better of him--*planning* adventures! A very sweet story! :-)
