So I am watching "To Catch a Predator" on the web. Which is convenient. I am not sure how to feel about this. I don't understand the charges, really. Because the decoys (both at the homes and online) are not underage. It seems like they are criminalizing fantasy.
My friend is active in BDSM chatrooms, and says that underage fantasy is a staple. I wonder if the men who flee are fleeing because they find out that the girl they are meeting is ACTUALLY (in their perception) underage, when all they meant for was to "rape you anally" an of-age woman in pigtails and training bra.

The japanese have far more horribly depraved porn (though we're getting there! GO USA!) and their rape rates are also far lower. So perhaps there is something to be said for 'getting it out of the system'. I'm basing that off of something I read like 8 years ago, though. Some may call it inaccurate, I call it political know-how.

I guess I just don't see the crime. I'm not a big fan on prosecuting intent. And in this case it's not even that...because the decoy is of age.
Lame.
Good show though. Wish they had more rednecks. Like COPS.

I understand your point. I pretty much agree. But I am still torn between the part of me that says "dude was trying to fuck a 12 year old". And I mean, they are seemingly trying to follow through on the thought, which is wear it takes the jump from bad thoughts to messing with a child's life. My head hurts from thinking about things now.
What COPS is to rednecks, To Catch a Predator is to college-age programmers. And maybe successful doctors.
