I read E.T.A. Hoffmann's "The Sandman," and was surprised to find that I actually liked it quite a lot. Then I read a bit from Freud discussing the work, and after a while I finally managed to pry my palm from my face. Freud's such a crackpot; he was talking about how the fear of getting your eyes plucked out is actually the fear of castration,

Ffff, yeah. It still irritates me that we had to learn about his theories in Psychology. I mean sure, I knew they were way out there, but I imagine a few people who left the room still remembered the theories more than they remembered being told later on that they weren't valid. He's important for historical reasons, and he inspired some artistic movements, but he's not really relevant as a psychologist. =P
