Missed it by that much.

In other news, I had a really weird experience last night. It was a very warm and pleasant night, so I decided to spend some of it in the hammock. As is my wont, I left the back door wide open while I was out there. I wrapped myself in a light blanket, turned on the radio, and dozed off. I don't know how long I was asleep, but presently I awoke and decided to go back inside.

When I got to the end of the hall, I noticed that the bathroom door was closed. I never close the bathroom door unless I'm in the bathroom. Both of my cats were accounted for. I opened the door without really thinking, and the next thing I knew, a large black dog emerged from the bathroom. It had a bobbed tail but the face of a Lab. I suspect a Doberman mix of some sort. It wandered out, gave me a sniff, and sauntered down the hall and out the back door. My black cat followed it, tail a stiff bottle-brush, and I closed the door.

I wondered who in Sam Hill had shut their dog in my bathroom at 4am. I made a cursory examination of the house, found no one, and went back to bed. I had not turned the lights on at any point.

This morning, I wondered if what I saw had been real. When I was in the bathroom, I saw my black cat sniff cautiously around the bathroom's doorframe, so I guess there really was a large dog in my house for no apparent reason. The door opens into the bathroom, so the dog must have nuzzled the door, and a south wind blew in from the window and finished the job. Nothing in the bathroom had been disturbed, so I guess he wasn't in there very long.

Weird. It's very unusual to see a dog running loose in this neighborhood. Everyone has their yards fenced in, and they walk their dogs on leashes. Huh.
