Keeping Secrets with Harry and Ginny: Exchange Rules and Guidelines

Feb 01, 2010 00:27

Psst! Have you heard? takingitinturns is keeping secrets with Harry and Ginny!

From the romance of clandestine kisses and anonymous valentines to the hidden dangers of the Chamber of Secrets, Harry and Ginny have lived with secrets all their lives. Whether it's a confidence between two lovers, an unsolved mystery, a special surprise or intelligence guarded against the enemy, we want to know what you think our favorite characters are hiding. Join us this spring as we explore the secret lives of Harry and Ginny in artwork and fiction.

Everyone is welcome to participate at takingitinturns, from longtime shippers to those who are writing or drawing Harry/Ginny for the first time. All ratings and all genres are included, from romance to drama, mystery or even horror -- as long as it's Harry/Ginny, we'd love to have it!

The way it works is simple: you make a request, we mix and match, and then we'll send you another person's request to fill. You write or draw something for that person while another fan creates a gift for you. At the end, we'll have lots of Harry/Ginny for everyone to enjoy!

Rules & Guidelines:
1. This fest is for fun! We're all here to celebrate the characters we love together in a community environment. It's Harry and Ginny, it's fabulous fanart and fanfic... what's not to love? Have a good time, relax and enjoy the exchange.

The mod is here to help make this fun for everyone. Respect your fellow fans and your mod, and keep comments courteous and friendly. Everyone has different ideas about Harry & Ginny's relationship, and part of the fun of the exchange is to see these ideas in action. Critique is welcome -- insults are not. If you can't chill out, you will be banned.

2. This is an exchange fest -- for the fest to work, it has to be a two-way street: you request AND you contribute a gift for another person. Signing up is a commitment to write or draw for another person; please don't sign up unless you know you can keep that commitment. Names of dropouts will be listed publicly at the conclusion of the fest.

3. Anyone of any age can sign up -- no prior experience required! You need to have a livejournal account, so you can post your work to the community.

4. Works of any rating are welcome! However, if you or your recipient are under 18, please stick to ratings below R.

5. Fic and art should incorporate the theme of secrecy and surprises, and focus on Harry and Ginny and their romantic relationship. Of course, other characters and concepts can be used, too. Please no character- or ship-bashing. This is a Harry/Ginny community, and the main focus of your story should be Harry and Ginny with each other. Stories which focus primarily on Harry leaving Ginny for someone else, or Ginny leaving Harry for someone else, will not be accepted.

6. Stories and artwork should be of finished quality: at least 1,000 words for fic, and a filled-out sketch or finished product for art -- no "drawbles." There is no maximum length and multi-part stories are welcome, but all parts of your story should be posted before the conclusion of the fest. Everyone should use a beta to make their work the best possible.

7. Posting of stories and artwork is not anonymous, but it should be a surprise! Please try to keep your assignment a secret until your work is posted.

8. Post your story/artwork to this community anytime before April 14. Include the full story text or artwork in the community post - not just a link. Please wait until after the master list is up at takingitinturns before posting your story elsewhere, including your personal journal or other websites/archives.

9. On April 28 all unfilled requests will be made available to the community for pinch hitters. However, only those who have already posted their assigned works will be eligible to receive pinch-hit gifts. Everyone who signs up must eventually complete and post their assigned story or artwork in order to participate in a future round -- if this means that you post your story two years after it was assigned, then great! A late story is better than no story at all, and we are always happy to have more Harry/Ginny.

Signup Form:
THIS IS NOT THE POST WHERE YOU SIGN UP. Signups will open February 15.
The form is provided so you can take your time and fill it out in advance if you like that kind of thing.

Try to give your writer/artist enough suggestions to work with, but not to overwhelm. If requesting art, please make art-friendly requests. For example, colors or styles you enjoy (blue, art deco), settings or scenes (The Burrow, playing Quidditch), or just individual details (candles, scarves, sunrise) can all be very helpful to artists. Art requests are dependent on the number of artists who sign up (of course!). Feel free to offer both fic and artwork if you are multi-talented -- there's no need to choose in advance.
