Hi there,

I think you mean well, but even though Phantom is a very well known story, not everyone necessarily knows the ending. Could you please put this behind a cut with a spoiler warning?

The thing is, in a real-life performance there's an intermission before the review, giving the audience time to go through the five stages of grief.

Maybe, for performances of Phantom, they need to insert a message in the DVD suggesting the viewer pause the DVD and take a short break before moving on from the show to the revue.

Actually, in a two-act musical such as Phantom they've already had intermission, so there isn't a break for mourning.

...they need to insert a message in the DVD suggesting the viewer pause the DVD...

I used to do this with my first DVD, because I couldn't handle a bouncy line dance straight after The Rose of Versailles (Cosmos version). ^^;;

The Hanagumi Phantom was my first Takarazuka experience... The revue suddenly starting while I was still mourning gave me quite a shock, haha. So sudden.

Ending a play with the revue part is a tradition even for a two acts piece. I remember, when the Theater was under US occupation, of a 1946 Kageki review written by an american theater journalist, who was absolutely shocked that everyone starts to tap dance and samba after Hamlet dies. The fact is that the administration wants the audience not to leave the theater mourning, and get back home on a shiny, light note. Keep in mind we are speaking about a dream-making industry.

I cried when Phantom (both versions) died. Then... The revue part came on at the end. I actually had to stop it once they started the revue part. I took my five minutes to cry, watched the revue (which lightened my mood), after watching the revue, I rewinded to see Phantom die again. I mourned the rest of the night. I wish I could have seen the live version, although I doubt I could watch it as my eyes would still be gleaming with tears.
