The observant amongst you will notice that (a) I am naughtily posting this from work because I actually have no time ever anymore to do anything other than work and sleep. And occasionally eat and drink. And things. Also (b) the fic below is looooong overdue. And finally, (c) my beautiful fic Masterpost is now complete (as far as I want it to be ( Read more... )

Oh my god, oh my god! Not only do you tease me with Calthazar, you give me glorious glorious ANGST as well? I am agast!

I mean, seriously, what an ending! Both of them lamenting what they never had, and kissing now bringing nothing but emptiness. Oh god. It's all too beautiful ♥

I think this is my favourite line:

Where emotion, movement, every aspect of the physical world had once felt new and fascinating and like freedom, now it felt like a prison they'd built for themselves. Like decay.

It's the complete antithesis to Balthazar's 'utter and complete freedom' line. Everything that was once full of promise and possibility narrowed down into darkness and hopelessness.

Bravo, my dear. Bravo!

Hehehe. Somehow I thought you'd enjoy this. I know I always say I hate angst but somehow I always end up writing it anyway (not that I would ever read it...) And yes. This is totally not Cas/Balthazar. Nope. It's sekritly Dean/Cas, I swear. >)

I just think that everything that should have been good went wrong for these poor angels, and I'm glad this came across. I really would have liked to have written an epic porn story with Cas/Bal/Anna (in a male vessel)/my two lovely Roman ladies.

So very happy to see this finally posted! That ending is extremely evil, but the hotness of the makeout scene makes up for it. I also have to agree with Cas and Bal at the end and agree that they should have had a foursome with bonus Anna. Some excellent and depressing lines in this one!

(You've even made icon!Sam sad!)

I couldn't help myself, for some reason, making this have a depressing ending. Maybe that's because that's how I feel when I think of poor dead Bal. ;_;

Poor Sad!Sam. :(

Oh, Balthazar and Castiel and their *yearning*! You did such a great job making each of them--and Anna, too--distinct in their curiosities, their rebellions, how they each behave in light of the things they want but aren't sure about having, even though they all want basically the same thing.

And the closing scene between Castiel and Balthazar, as they mourn their inability to actually have it, makes for an *aching* contrast to the rest of the fic.

Very good fic.

The ending sort of happened accidently, as I wanted to look at the contrast between what they'd had and could have had, and what they'd become, and when I thought about it, it was all very sad. I'm glad this came across.

Thanks for commenting. This was something a little different for me and I'm glad it worked. :)

Great exploration of the sense of wonder an angel, new in a vessel, might feel, and that inevitable sense of weariness and decay. I like how you tied it into Christmas (whenever the date actually is, ha), and how much the three angels understand each other. And the prostitutes... props to making them real and flawed and beautiful.

"Once," Balthazar announced, "I kissed a girl and she liked it."

C'mon Balthazar, Castiel doesn't know who Katy Perry is. ^_^

It was fun to write that beginning, where they were experiencing humanity for the first time. I love writing that type of thing: the alieness of angels and their lack of human understanding, not just in terms of the emotional and also of all things physical. My Roman ladies were also a lot of fun to create. Originally they had no names, but then I decided I wanted them to be people, and for Balthazar and Castiel- without the predjudices of human society- to see them as such. Mostly now I want to write an epic PWP with Cas/Bal/Anna (in a male vessel)/my two lovely Roman ladies. XD

Glad to see you're still reading SPN!

You know Balthazar's a big fan of Katy Perry, though, and goes to all her concerts.

You had to lull me in the false sense of security of a fic set in the past, just to break my heart with the last scene after all, didn't you?

Apparently I was feeling evil when I wrote this. >) Sorry about that!
