Yay! Leela! I like her because as you say she is intelligent and shows that because a person doesn't know about technology or whatever it doesn't mean they're stupid. I still feel a bit ick when they go on about the Pygmalian idea on the DVD's though.

Yeaahh, they try to develop the Eliza Doolittle thing in the audio range as well, but really I don't think that comes across very strongly in the tv episodes. The Doctor is clearly not an attentive teacher (he doesn't even care to explain what science is as opposed to the religious system Leela grew up with) and Leela's strong personality just negates all attempts at making her more compliant.

(Which makes me wonder how Leela would fare with Three, who would be a lot more invested in the teaching bit... and also a lot less restrained when it comes to physical violence probably. Within limits, of course.)

The Doctor is clearly not an attentive teacher I don't care what they say on the DVDs I can tell Four/Tom Baker isn't too happy about having Leela around.

Three could teach Leela Venusian Akido - Hai!

I do think the Doctor warms up to her, but it takes a while (and Four isn't exactly affectionate at the best of times). As for Tom Baker...
