As I said in my comment to the news post, "must be Tuesday." Basically they are trying to connect livejournal with facebook and twitter. NOT ON. This means that, if someone sets it up, their comment to a friends-locked entry will appear on facebook or twitter - the f-locked post itself won't be visible, of course, but if you are friends with someone ( Read more... )

There was already a feature to connect LJ and Facebook, they just made it fancier and extended it to comments. Without really thinking about it.

A big part of the problem is probably that, from everything I've read and heard (including from my Russian prof), in Russia, LJ is synonymous with "blog." It is the primary, public, respectable blogging platform, not the personal, slightly dorky fandom haven we see it as in the English-speaking world. So of course SUP would be confused on that point.

True yes, I have a read a bit ages ago about LJ being more like a blogging than journaling platform for Russian users - very much in contrast to how English speakers use it (in my experience, anyway). Nevertheless, I don't know why they couldn't just have an opt-in option to link fb/twitter to journal entries, and leave comments out of it entirely. Only a given user is responsible for their entries, so that's fine, but it's another story with comments.

Plus, ugh, can you imagine the clutter on fb/twitter if people started linking their comments? It's cluttering enough with people just liking their blog posts.

Okay so I guess I should clarify, "in the English-speaking section" LJ is never going to be Blogspot.

Seriously, stupidest thing ever. What's the point of having a journal if people can totally post comments and stuff? Isn't a journal generally good for privacy? It's a contradiction...write in a journal but let's go tweet that shit out. And add it on Facebook for the world to see. UNCOOL.

Yeah, it really comes down to the difference between a journal and a blog, and how people use them differently. Sigh... time to move to dreamwidth, lol, except that everybody is here.
