Thought it would be nice to take a few photos of things that folk paint on walls around here amongst the others peculiarities that I find. So, I'm looking for a pocket size, cheap and cheerful, point and shoot digital camera but don't have much of a clue about the things.

Recommendations ( or hand me downs ;) ) welcome ...

I like the Cannon IXUS range, you wont go wrong with one of those, so easy to use. I have an old IXUS 60, I bet they are quite cheap on Ebay.

I have a sony DSC W-80, and it's pretty handy.

ION, I think I saw one of my friends on carckbook saying that they'd won a camera which they had no use for t'other day - I shall see if they've had any takers.

EDIT: Balls, camera's gone already. Sorry dude, good luck finding one though!

I'm keeping a close eye on this thread as I've recently got the photo bug again. If I see anything decent I will post it for you! I don't want to spend more than £100 quid but also want something Nolly (ie idiot) proof, as my lack of camera skills are pretty legendary.

Decide on (and list) the features you want (zoom, macro, flippy screen, movies, whatever) and then go and play with a few in Jessops. My best advice is a) stick to well-known camera brands like Canon, Nikon, Pentax.. Panasonic are very good too.. and b) don't buy one that takes AA batteries! :)

I think plain simple point and shoot, not right fussed about a zoom, macro or movies. Cheap, cheerful, functional, small and rugged are orders of the day.

Why avoid AA batteries?

They are unreliable and run out really quickly - the lithium type are much better. If you want small it'd probably only take 2 AAs which is even worse. We have loads of digital cameras at work and I HATE HATE HATE the ones that take AAs!

I had a tiny Pentax Optio camera which I carried every day for the last 4 years, Matt's got it now cos I upgraded, but I would definitely recommend something similar... there are loads of options out there though! :)
