Roundabout
Hermione watches them every day from the park across from their new house, under the shade of a wattle tree. They walk with elbows linked, talking animatedly, as she presses her nose into the pages of her book.
Today while they’re out, she lies at the centre of the roundabout, squinting against the afternoon sun. Flat on her back, she clings to the paint-chipped handlebars and imagines the clouds swirling overhead as she spins round and round. Round and round as she laughs and her father laughs and her mother takes pictures as she tries to keep the camera still.
