I've got nothing to offer with regard to the hooks, but I think that the gown sounds lovely by your description. It will be very elegant.

Uh - I dislike changing ideas...

Hooks & eyes, I am not that fond of them as closing, as they either gap or loosen themselves (I can never manage to lace exactly to the measures as I had when making the markings for H&E)

But I like your description of the dress :-)
