THINK ABOUT IT: Bye Bye, Silly Old Bear…

As further proof that the people running the Walt Disney Corporation and Shadow Government have totally lost their minds, it was announced last week that the makers of the new cartoon series, My Friends Tigger and Pooh, will personally exhume the grave of Winnie-the-Pooh creator A.A. I completely agree! I have had a few arguments with friends about this. Some of them seem to think that I have a problem with them adding a female. Not true! Yes, I agree that the cast could use a strong female character. Kanga is nice and all, but she is motherly, not a friend.

I tell them that if you want to add "a breath of fresh air," add one but do not subtract any of the things that already made the concept great! Give Christopher Robin a female friend or a sister. Add in a female jagular (still the only type of creature mentioned in the books that has not appeared in any of the movies or tv series, by the way) as a new companion. There are loads of possibilities but do not take out Christopher Robin or any of the other main characters ( ... )

You know, I never even liked Winnie the Pooh, never understood the big deal with it, and I can tell that Disney is an idiot. I think Disney needs to hear the adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I feel your pain, if not deep down in my childhood soul, but I feel it.

We were just discussing this on another forum I belong to. Absolute rubbish. Though, being Disney, it doesn't suprise me anymore. Other fairy tales & literary characters they've pretty much ruined: Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Little Mermaid, even Sleeping Beauty and The Black Cauldron to a certain degree. It's no longer about producing something that makes children happy, it's about making a profit by attracting the biggest audience possible. Gotta hook in the adults, so we're going to put in some wise-cracking characters. Gotta hook in girls, so we're going to put in a tomboy and take out Christopher Robin. Grrr.

Interesting note, if you read about the real Christopher Robin Milne and his autobiography, he was not too pleased even with Disney's first Winnie-the-Pooh movie in 1976. He also had a huge cross to bear being "Christopher Robin" all his life.
