Dragon Con, Part 1

Sep 19, 2010 14:36

It's that time of year again! Dragon con report in 3,2,1 ...

This year everybody else got there before I did and so I sent them to get my badge while I waited outside in the lobby, totally cheating the line, which was awesome. Seriously though, why do you have to wait in line 5 hours for pre-registered ticket pickup when you can just walk up  to the desk and walk out in like 2 seconds. It makes no sense. next year I'm thinking about paying the extra money and buying the ticket on site.

Tere is lotr_lemmy with her badge! The badges were we cuter this year - dragon!! :D

Here are a few random pictures the girls took before I got there.

(Prince of Persia, The Guild, and Spartans! apparently these particular Spartans also sang Bad Romance and it was epic. I missed that, though. But they were HOT Spartans.)

DRATW FTW!!!

I still just totally am in awe of the Leia/Stomtrooper thing. There were a TON of really creative costumes this year.

After registration, we went to dinner at a place called vortex and lotr_lemmy 's dad ate the biggest burger I've ever seen. I think it was called the triple bypass or something. He should've got a T-shirt for it.

Friday morning we got up bright and early - here's me and nariana_staris  trying to act like we're awake.

Friday was my day that I got to wear Snapdragon, so I sent everybody else off to a panel and stayed behind to take a shower, do my makeup, put my eyeliner on, fix my hair, all that good stuff. We still hadn't named the Dragon so Elaine decided to call him Stephen, and he ended up getting called Steve all weekend. Yeah, I don't even know.

nariana_staris  was my personal slave girl for the day. Which is so nice to have especially if you have a costume that needs a lot of handling. Since it was the first time I ever put the entire costume on at once, I was pretty happy with the results. ^.^

I was super nervous about meeting nenethomas , eeeeeee.

On the way to my first panel we stopped for a while at the arch to take pictures. Snapdragon has pockets, and I had my little camera, but it's nice when someone else can carry your big fancy camera. I have since blown this into an 8 x 10 for my studio, and it looks awesome.

I went to a panel on costuming, and one of the panelists was Yaya Han, who is a professional cosplayer and also models for nenethomas . I met her a few times before and she's just so nice and insanely talented. She was pleased with Snapdragon and asked me if Nene had seen it yet and told me where her booth was so that I could go find her in the dealer room.

On the way there we saw Power Rangers!!

We also got stopped for an interview and I honestly have no idea what it was for - probably DCTV. the girl interviewing with me crocheted her entire outfit. O.o She was cool. We ended up hanging out a lot because we did a lot of stuff on the costume track.

The interview was funny because we started off talking about our costumes - whether we made them all that kind of thing, and then out of nowhere the interviewer wants to know if we knew there was a paranormal track this year, and whether or not we like that kind of stuff, and so of course Supernatural came up. Apparently I can go nowhere without mentioning Show. Big shock, right? So at some point, somewhere, on some television, I was talking about Supernatural. Lolz.

And then the moment I had been waiting for - meeting Nene! The guy at the booth recognized  Snapdragon right away, lol. It took Nene a second, but then she was all *flail* and *inspects* and I wanna hold Steve!!

She is very nice, and she signed my book for me and we had a really good time talking about the project. I was glad I put so many details into it because she really looked it over, lol.

(Ok, I add-libbed that last part, but as you can see, she DID wanna hold Steve. He was very popular.)

On the way to picking up my badge for the costume contest, we ran into a giant friendly robot made out of cardboard and another lady had a really cute dragon. :)

But I still think mine is cuter. ^.^

We Stopped in the lobby to take a bunch of pictures. Groups are so fun. I really want to do a group someday that's more recognizable than Show.

(Even if Show is totally awesome.)

This little boy walked up to this guy and asked him if he was the real Capt. America and we all died of cute.

By this time I had completely exhausted nariana_staris , who'd been guarding my wings all day to make sure they didn't get ripped to shreds by the crowd. I was pretty tired myself.

We spent the whole day in the Marriott, which is my favorite Dragon con hotel.

The Marriott lobby is a really popular place for pictures, because there's lots of free open space.

My favorite group of the entire weekend was the How to Train your Dragon group. They didn't have their own dragon so they borrowed mine, and then everybody wanted pictures of them with my dragon and they couldn't give him back to me for like 15 minutes, it was so cute.

We went upstairs to take some pictures and found an epic villains group.

There were something like 500 bees on that one guy's costume.

This guy was the BEST.

There were a lot of princes there with their princesses.

I think this was the Hyatt.

While I was on my costuming track everyone else in my room was off at the Firefly panel. I had planned to go to the firefly panel on Sunday but it got canceled, so I didn't get to see any of them.

A whole bunch of dudes as The Flash. If they all walk in a straight line, they just look like one guy going really fast, LOL.

BIG year for Superheroes. Stan Lee was there, so duh. More on Stan Lee later.

UP! This guy was handing out badges to everybody. So awesome. ^.^

Then it was time to go for pre-judging, and there was a little baby Aang!

WITH AN APPA STROLLER! AND A MOMO MOBILE!!!
This made me very happy.

Having released nariana_staris  from her slave girl duties, lotr_lemmy  took her place and kept me company while we waited backstage.

There were so many amazing costumes. AMAZING.

It was my first contest, and it was mostly long periods of intense boredom followed by insane bouts of picture-taking and omg-there-are-people-looking-at-me. Lol. It was fun though - the only downside is that it takes up most of your day at the con, so if you are going to enter one, schedule wisely.

Best in show was this amazing group, Steampunk Wizard of Oz.

Not all of these pics are the best, but there are some hysterical costumes at this link that I missed, check it out.

Our last shots of the day in the Atrium were Tony Stark and Pepper Potts - and they made out for us!! This made us VERY happy.
:D :D :D :D :D :D

At T-minus just about 12 hours since I'd put Snapdragon on, I finally caught up with rivercritter  for our first photo shoot. She did an AWESOME job!

After 12 hours, it was definitely time to eat something. And shower. Omg, and pee. We found this awesome little 24 hour diner right down the street from our hotel and we ended up going back there several times. They had karaoke!

We took this picture at 3 AM, No, I'm not tired, why do you ask?

They also had this amazing cake, which we shared. YUM.

On our way back, we found a truck with a Chthulu fish. !!!1!!

And then we died.

Sat/Sun/Mon, coming soon. It has a bunch of good SPN guest star stories in it, so stay tuned!
