Things were better today. Thanks. ♥

Work is done for the week, FINALLY, so this weekend I'm going to try to get my dragoncon reports and Snapdragon diary and the next chapter of Repo done.

3 general service announcements;

1) Dragon Naturally Speaking software does not work so well, but makes for a hysterical potential drinking game.
2) I need ( Read more... )

is this real life?, ficrec

I'm glad that things are better today. : )
I'd be curious to listen to some podfics. I've yet to do so. Seems nice. I've listened to audiobooks before, and liked it.

The reader definitely alters the experience depending on who is doing the reading. Red is a really old recording - some of the chapters were missing and got re-recorded by someone else, and the difference is like WOAH. They are both awesome but for completely 180 opposite reasons, lol.

I've gotten hooked on it since I've been doing so much sewing - it's nice to get to 'read' and still use my hands. :)

I'm not sure I've ever read Red either. It's big_pink, right? I have a bunch of her stories saved as pdfs but never read them. Hmm. I kinda didn't mind that Apocalypse Z didn't have angst, which is weird since I'm all about the angst. Maybe zombies and angst don't always go hand in hand?

Um, suggestions. What are you looking for? I know you don't read wincest but do you do Dean/OMC? If you do, this lovely angst-filled big bang from this year is the first thing that popped to my mind. Hmmm, also from this year, Cross Creek is a wickedly cool case fic.

jeeeebus that was a fast response.

I'll read it eventually, I promise. You should see my to-read list, it's terribly long and I have a system about it.

Yeah, but technically this one is FIRST, chronologically, and you always end up twittering complaints about your reading list. THIS ONE IS GOOD. READ IT. ;)

Hooked on podfic now, are we? *cackles demonically*

I'm looking back through the pages on spn_gen_podfics and here are my recs:

Tangent Post-apocalyptic goodness that I just love. It's only 26 minutes though.

Rumspriga Dean kicking ass and taking names and getting hurt and breaking your heart. Only 20 minutes but so good.

Tom Sawyer 'VerseCrossover with Dark Angel. Technically it's not the best read every but the story makes up for it in spades.

One Father's Sons OMG OMG OMG I can't believe I forgot about this one. It is SOOOOOOOOOOO good!!! 12 HOURS worth of goodness, even! The story will blow you away. A DEFINITE read - especially since you liked Lazarus Came Forth and Red - this is in the same vein. Excellent story.

Unthinkable Okay, I'll be doing this all night long if I don't stop here, lol. This is a good one - excellent characterization of Dean and compelling look at Sam as well. Read by moi. :-)

Yes, I'm totally hooked. THANKS FOR THAT. *headdesk*

I read Rumspringa when she first wrote it - it is excellent. Never heard the podfic though - I may have to dl that one just for adding to my collection in case I ever feel like reading it again. I'm practically allergic to football but somehow she made me NOT CARE. Lol.

... TWELVE HOURS!? Sweeet. I need to plan another vacation ...

1) Dragon Naturally Speaking software does not work so well, but makes for a hysterical potential drinking game.

We use Dragon 10 at my job, but all new employees have to do 3 weeks of training and create a voice profile by reading a specific text and then going back to correct words that come out wrong. It actually does work pretty well for captioning, but I don't think your regular person would be up for a lengthy training experience to use it.

I was going to ask you that - I keep playing with it and it almost seems to be learning. If I correct the document manually, does it take that into account for next time? I'd really like to be able to use it. It would save me tons of time with reviews and such. I don't mind doing a final edit to make sure everything is good, but I don't want it talking about Indonesia and brimstone when I'm trying to say something entirely different. :)

It does actually learn when you correct it, as it's tuning into the nuances that your voice has. It also helps to not go *too* fast, as it is easily confused. Background noise can create what we call "phantom words".

Since I've never used the commercially available version, did they give you a way to set up a voice profile, or do you just use it straight out of the box?

It does but it said that my audio quality was substandard or something? Which doesn't make sense, for one, and for two, it doesn't say what you do about that. But yeah, it tests you on a paragraph or two and then scans your my documents folder to get your speaking style ... which is lol, since my fanfic folder is NOT how I SPEAK, it's how I WRITE. But eh. :)

No problem! I highly prefer reading them myself, but podfics have proven to be a SAVIOR for long car trips. :)
