It is kind of funny but my colleague went to see X-men First Class last night and came in today and said he thought it was "rubbish and flat and not an X-men movie."

I think on balance that I agree that neither film was a BIG ACTION MOVIE like most people probably want from a superhero film. I would argue that the original X-men films aren't either, but then, for me, almost every film is about the character dynamics rather than about the explosions and battles. Which is probably also why I get so defensive over things I love, because it feels like the person is rejecting these PEOPLE who I ADORE. It's like someone ragging on one of my friends. Which is all kinds of over-investing but it's how I've always felt about stories.
It's like... I love Superman Returns, did from the first watch and every watch since, because the dyanmics between the characters are so beautiful, and even though Brandon Routh doesn't spend the whole thing kicking ass and taking names, there's something deliriously romantic and sad about the situation he is in in that ( ... )
