In general, retired greys do fine with cats, though there are those that do not, but, the rescues are pretty good at determining which ones will be ok and those that won't. Doesn't mean you don't have to be careful introducing them, I was cautious for a while, and I have quite the household of cats. But there is a lot of good info out there about bringing retired racers into your house and I looked into all of that carefully before adopting ( ... )

Our Sasha- a 50+ pound border collie/husky mix- is totally intimidated by the cats if/when they try for that. I have to run interference most days. :)

But- it's better that she be intimidated than not. I have a real concern about adopting a dog that is NOT cat-safe.

I'm certainly interested in potentially adopting a retired greyhound- they're such cool dogs! My concerns about it for us are 1. cat-safety; and 2. we are not highly active people, so I'd worry about the dog getting enough exercise.

I figure we can teach them about stairs, etc., which I know are sometimes problems for retired racers.

Actually, your border collie/husky mix would be a much more active dog than a grey. Stella likes walks, but, is not in the least high-strung, nothing like my little JRT mix, that is for sure! In fact, greys make excellent couch potatoes. :-) Stella spends a great part of the day just lying on the couch or on a dog pillow, quite content that way. I've heard the same about other greys too.
