And just because I have this insane need to share my stories with the world, here are the current synopsis and excerpt of my NaNo 2011 novel, Wild Hunt. (Making it fairly obvious what my question about "Seleighe" vs. "Seelie" was about.... ;)

The idea of a Fae reassuring herself that humans probably also have tempers is hilarious. This looks really interesting -- more so because I find myself unfamiliar with at least one term you use. Levinbolt? I'm guessing that's the proper name for those flashes of hurty light that magic folk like to throw about in a fight.

*snrks in amusement* Yep, she's been living among them for a year, but still doesn't really know that much about them.

As for "levinbolt"... well, it's one term. I stole that one from Mercedes Lackey. I may change it, maybe.

I was wondering about the etymology. Haven't read much Mercedes Lackey, but I'm guessing it's a word based on one of her own languages? 'Cause the initial L made me think of lux, but then the "levin" part is more reminiscent of (Latin-based) levitation spells. So now I'm wondering if equating a levinbolt with hurty light is incorrect (also I'm wondering if I'm thinking too much about this).

*grins wryly* I'm not sure about the etymology, but yes, levinbolts are those "hurty lights" - bolts of pure magical energy. (And, actually, I don't know that she really has "original" languages - Shin'a'in seems to be based on Romany, from what I can tell, and Tayle'edras and Kaled'a'in are in turn linked to Shin'a'in.)

Anyway, yes, levinbolts = blasts of pure magical force.
