This is really impressive, especially when compiled into a list like this. Security Officers are often under appreciated, underpaid, and overworked, but they make such a huge impact in allowing things to run smoothly and safely. Too often that part is forgotten: things run smoothly because SOs are there, not in spite of them.

And yes, we are going through a company change i.e. same site different security company. A company that has promised a 7% to 10% decrease in overhead per year for the next three years.
Hmmm...
How do you cut costs with a security company?
I mean, where exactly IS the overhead?
Yeah.
I came to that conclusion too.

I figure I have a year before they tell us that we must take a pay cut or go elsewhere. Their only promise was to transfer all current officers who choose to stay at their current pay rate. No promises were made about maintaining that pay rate.
Still, it is nice to be able to see the bullet coming. I figure I have eight or nine months before they start inventing disciplinary problems to justify letting the old guard go - so to speak. It will take them that long to interview and put prospective replacements in the pipeline.
Le sigh.
What is weird is that I love being the ounce. It is the source of most of my warm fuzzies. At this plant we make a difference.
