*squints at appointments etc within that time* Flying across an ocean, tax appointment, physio appointment, possibly dinner on an island (assuming I can get there), and a weekend of hauling Stuff on another island.

Hmf. Looks like I need to do this right now if I want to get it into the usual pattern.

"Uh-oh," he heard a human voice mutter, and immediately started looking around for the source.

"What is it?" he asked, when he couldn't spot the problem.

"Territory-marking," Isi said, loud enough he could find her by one of the bigger trees next to the deer-path they'd been following.

"Whose?" he replied, sliding through the four people between them to join her at the tree.

"Not sure--" she reached up, touching one of the lower slashes in the bark. "That looks like something Riverbirch would use, but the rest of this really, really isn't Riverbirch, and we should have left them behind a week ago anyway."

"That's not good," he murmured, reaching up to touch the slashes himself, trying to get a feel for the maker. "Anyone know who's historically been around here?"

"We're all lowlands," she murmured back. "Even Nika's five or six rivers away from here, and her pack wasn't much for trading."

"Winter," he cursed idly, then sighed. "All right. Keep your eyes open, everyone," he said, projecting to reach everyone. "We may get

Ah, Trickwood. Where most days it is a toss up if the inhabitants or the flora will try and kill you faster.
