wool in blended sea greens and blues and purples. (Hazel)taennynAugust 26 2008, 21:06:12 UTC
Sascha took them both to the tailor at the end of summer, before the rain started falling, laughed when Hazel made faces at the measuring process and turned into a cat getting petted when it was her turn. She even looked like a cat, her eyes half slitted, pleased at being touched and she moved the way she did when she was at her best, all long curves of movement with no wasted effort.
Hazel's coat was brown and red and orange, the cloth woven in varigated tones and then boiled, Sascha'd told her, to make it all one piece instead of a collection of threads like her favourite jeans.
Sascha's coat, when they came back for fittings--Hazel needed more space in the shoulders, already--was sea greens and blues and purples, blurred together like an abalone shell. It was lined in bright green, the kind that made Sascha's freckles stand out, but the coat, closed, made her look like one of cousin Sebastien's watercolour paintings.
Hazel just looked like herself in her coat, lanky and a little scruffy.
The veggie has the same problem. =\ I may eventually be able to talk this one into changing her name to something else--the Russian nickname doesn't necessarily fit the culture her mother's from, after all.
Hazel is always Hazel (this might have something to do with the fact that you can't talk the girl into skirts very well. She dresses to suit herself, and it shows.)
