"I'd say," she said between panting gulps of air, "that I was sorry, but Winter don't do that again."

"Sorry," he replied, still sitting on the ground, looking half-stunned as he rubbed his head gingerly. "Thought you'd seen me."

"Ah, no." She eyed the half of the staff she was still holding, then looked around, trying to see where the other piece had bounced.
