It won't work, you know. The sewer charge is typically calculated based upon how much water you take *into* the house. That's why folks with lawn sprinkler systems usually get another small meter placed on the output line to their sprinklers to *remove* that volume of water from their sewer charge. Mainly, it's assumed thjat whatever water you take into the house will eventually end up getting sent back out again, hence why the sewer charge is calculated like that.

They tripled the sewer handling fees around here sometime last year. Now I can't get my water bill below $55, because it's all fucking fees and not actual water use. I know they need funds to maintain the system but damn.

What about sticking a milk bottle or something full of water in the toilet's tank? That way you trick the system into thinking it's full when it's not and use less water

Sewage is pretty ridiculous, yeah. It's billed quarterly in my area, too, so people get walloped every couple of months because the charge sneaks up on them.
