Man...it's tough balancing creativity and responsibility. Well, I guess responsibility is hard for me whether or not I have to balance it with anything else. But creativity makes the whole thing fall apart. ( Why you shouldn't be creative. )
Can one's creative side actually die from creative inertia? I am not sure if mine is actually dead or just in a coma. I used to be quite creative, and everyone said I'd be a writer or an artist, but then I got two physics degrees and I think that might've snuffed out my Creative Side for good. I am a murderess!
Wish I had some good advice for you, but all I can say is good luck - and that composing is admirable and awesome.

I don't think it can completely die; it just has more inertia to overcome the longer you leave it. If you're interested in resurrecting it -- even if only as a side interest -- the solution most creative types seem to give is to make sure to practice your creative activity of choice each and every day. Maybe just ten minutes a day. It doesn't matter if what you do in those ten minutes is good, it doesn't matter if it's even really creative. You need to just keep it up, whether you feel creative or not. I have trouble adopting a regimen of composition, so this has never worked out for me either. Maybe I'm just doomed. DOOMED!

OK, glad you don't think it can completely die. I kind of worry about that. I think the part about "It doesn't matter if what you do... is good" is important. I get too bent out of shape because I'm not, for example, F. Scott Fitzgerald. I mean, if I drank that much it would KILL me! And I don't even know anyone named Zelda. Really, though, I think having expectations that are too high can put ones' creative side in a straitjacket and THAT is DOOM indeed. Failing is better than being too much of a weenie to even try. (This is my new mantra.)
Doomy-doom doom! I'm going to go be creative for ten minutes.

I think playing The Legend of Zelda is an acceptable substitute in this modern age. But it doesn't count as your creative time. Nor does writing fanfic about it count. That way leads to fear, Mary Sue-ism, the Dark Side, and DOOM!
